The second weekend of the sailing season was a lot like the first. The weather continues to be cold and wet which is really helping to raise the water level in Lake Erie.
The First Mate and I decided to take in the sights of Put-In-Bay during the day and found a easy mooring. In fact, the Bay was fairly empty shortly after noon. As it turns out, a sailing race from Toledo to Put-In-Bay had ended the prior evening with several participants finishing early in the morning as the wind idled. The race boats took over the city docks, usually occupied cigarette boats and other stinkpotters.
With favorable winds, we decided to leave the Bay and drop the hook on the north side of Kelley's Island. We caught a 12 knot breeze from the southeast as we left the cut through Buckeye Reef and Ballast Island. Good sailing all the way to Kelley's with only a couple of tacks needed to reach our destination. Six other sailboats overnighted with us. Morning brought continued good winds and we sailed
