One of our first adventures on Therapy was to finally get our friends, Dave and Michelle Homan, to go sailing. Long-time boaters, first-time sailors, Dave and Michelle were eager to test the waters... as well as experience Put-in-Bay.
At the top of Perry's Monument
After arriving at Herl's Harbor on Friday evening, the crew awoke early Saturday morning, August 1, 2009, to make the short voyage to South Bass Island. Our plan was to spend the day at Put-in-Bay then sail over to the north bay of Kelley's Island where the southerly breeze would make for a good anchorage.
After finding a mooring in Put-in-Bay, we visited the Perry's Monument to get a better view of the Lake and the surrounding islands. Perry's Monument was built in 1913 to commerate Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's victory at the Battle of Lake Erie in 1813. The monument will be undergoing a major renovation and will be closed to the public for the next four years.

Dave, Michelle, Connie and Mike
Put-in-Bay is a quaint drinking town on South Bass Island with a boating problem. It's an easy sail from Sandusky or Port Clinton and Put-in-Bay offers a number of sites and local pubs... which also produce a few sights of their own.
Here, Dave and Michelle and the crew of Therapy are enjoying a few ales in a quiet place known as the Round House Bar listening to the vocal renderings of Mad Dog Mike Adams who proudly claims that "he hasn't sold a lot of records, but he's sold a lot of beer".

Michelle and Dave Homan
Michelle wanted to take command of the boat and quickly grabbed for the tiller. While Therapy isn't steered by tiller, Dave doesn't seem to mind and wasn't about to inform Michelle of her mistake.
After spending Saturday evening anchored off the north shore of Kelley's Island, we awoke to a gloomy morning. A cold front approached bringing a mist and drizzle that provided a cool start to the day. Shortly, however, the front passed and the wind quickly freshened to 10 to 15 knots from the northwest. This gave us a great sail back to Catawba Island as we briefly hit 8.1 knots on the GPS. We had a great ride back with Therapy racing through the waves, the jib skimming the water, and Dave screaming like a little kid.
